Priceline.com (Nasdaq: PCLN) rose more than nine percent to close at 56.75 Thursday after the “name-your-own price” pioneer announced the hiring of former Citigroup chief financial officer Heidi Miller as its new CFO.
Miller will be the company’s “senior business development official,” responsible for “strategic development efforts” in the U.S. and abroad, Priceline said. Last year, Fortune magazine named Miller the second most powerful businesswoman in the United States.
Miller called Priceline “the perfect e-commerce business.” The company, which allows consumers to name their own price for a host of goods and services, is “not an e-tailer, and it’s not a niche player,” she said. “It’s a business platform that can sit on top of virtually any industry.”
