Stock Watch: Check Point Beats Street

Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: CHKP) gained 18 3/8 to 243 3/4 Thursday after reporting second-quarter results that beat analysts’ expectations.

The Redwood City, California-based company said net income for the quarter rose to $43.7 million, or 50 cents per diluted share, from $21.5 million, or 27 cents, in the year-earlier quarter. Revenue advanced to $90.7 million from $50.1 million.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Gil Shwed attributed the strong performance to “exceptional strength” in the company’s core business of Internet security software, along with the introduction of several new products and strengthened partnerships.

Analysts were expecting the company to earn 42 cents per share in the latest quarter.
