CDuctive.com Kicks Off New MP3 Store

Independent-label music is often tough to track down via traditional retail stores, and the Internet is now giving music fans better access to hard-to-find favorites.

Today, online music seller CDuctive.com announced the launch of its new digital download store, which features a variety of notable acts on independent labels.

CDuctive.com is promoting the launch by giving its users access to free downloadable MP3 tracks by controversial chart-topping rapper Eminem and critics’ favorite Sleater-Kinney. The Eminem track is a minor coup for CDuctive.com because the rapper recently was on the cover of Rolling Stone and his debut album sold 480,000 copies in its first two weeks of release.

CDuctive.com claims its store has the widest selection of licensed independent label music available for download across the dance/electronic, indie rock and hip-hop genres. In coming weeks, CDuctive.com plans to announce the addition of thousands of licensed MP3 tracks to its catalog.

The store currently includes music from indie rock favorite Built To Spill, female college punk band The Donnas, as well as club-play mainstays Goldie and DJ Spooky. The store also features hard-to-find tracks by top-selling artists including Green Day and Hole. Many MP3 singles can be purchased for $1.49 (US$).

“With many of the world’s hottest labels and most ground-breaking artists taking part, we’re proving once again that new distribution models work best when music comes first,” said CDuctive.com CEO Thomas Ryan.

About CDuctive.com

CDuctive.com, which is the leading aggregator and distributor of independent label music on the Internet, has deals with more than 250 record labels, including Sleater Kinney’s Kill Rock Stars, dance/electronic label Platipus and hip-hop label 3-2-1. CDuctive.com also has more than 40 online partners including CDNow (Nasdaq: CDNW), and leading music content sites RollingStone.com, Tunes.com and Sonicnet. CDuctive.com says it now attracts more than 10 million unique users per month.

In addition to downloading music with the MP3 format, CDuctive.com users can listen to streaming audio and then create and purchase custom CDs with their favorite tracks. CDNow uses CDuctive’s technology to offer this service to its customers, as well.

CDuctive.com should continue to attract more and bigger labels because the millions of users it now attracts are becoming enough a mass audience that could help a fledgling artist break through. The advantage of selling music via digital downloads include higher profit margins and much lower marketing costs
