TV shows like "The Hills" focus on the petty squabbles that go on in the world of spoiled, vapid socialites. I can't think of a program that gets into the catfights that go on in the IT world, and I don't know whether there'd really be a huge audience for something like that, but they do happen, and court documents in an ongoing lawsuit have revealed some juicy tidbits. The class-action suit concerns the promises made by some PC makers that their computers -- even some really weak-kneed models -- could shoulder the weight of Microsoft's latest operating system, Vista.

The rest of the economy may be tanking, but online advertising in the U.S. posted big year-over-year gains, according to the New York City-based Interactive Advertising Bureau and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Internet advertising revenue reached nearly $5.9 billion in the third quarter, an 11 percent increase compared to the same period the year before.

Yahoo and T-Mobile jointly announced that Yahoo oneSearch will be the default mobile engine to power Internet search made through T-Mobile's new Web2go service. The new Web2go service is basically a customizable home page on a mobile phone that makes it easier to view and navigate the Internet on the handheld device.

Just weeks after being linked to a scandal over tainted milk that killed four infants and sickened thousands in China, Chinese search engine giant Baidu has been hit with more bad news. Shares of Baidu plummeted after China's state-run television network reported that the company had sold links to unlicensed medical sites with uncorroborated claims about their products.

A video for the title track on hip-hop veteran Common's forthcoming album, "Universal Mind Control," begins with a digital music player pulsing to the beat. The viewer is pulled through the screen into the gadget's guts, where the cool, collected rapper lets loose an easy stream of lyrics. It takes hitting rewind a few times to notice that the music player isn't one of Apple's slim new iPods.

Those looking to save on shipping costs in particular might find themselves at FreeShipping.org, a new Web site that lists free shipping deals for hundreds of retailers. "We noticed how many retailers were offering free shipping, and that shoppers were wanting it," said Luke Knowles, cofounder of the company.

The first was put on by Digital River, a firm that specializes in setting up or improving profitable online stores like Apple and Dell have, and we were focused on strategies for increasing company revenues and profits in these troubling times.

The Bush Administration pushed through new rules last week that seek to end Internet gambling. The new regulations, issued by the Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve system, require banks, credit card companies and wire transfer companies to establish a process to stop payments for settling online bets.
